Prof. Dr. Axel Buether

Prof. Dr. Axel Buether has started his career as a stone mason. After finishing his traineeship, he studied architecture, gaining a doctorate in the interdisciplinary area of neuropsychology and design with a thesis on the semiotics of perceptual space.

Since then, he worked on a variety of architecture, design and media art projects.

 

He was appointed in 2006 as director of the German Colour Association,

an interdisciplinary association that has hosted international conferences,

held competitions and provided education and training on colour for 50 years.

 

Prof. Dr. Buether served as Professor of Colour, Light and Space at Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle (Saale) from 2006 to 2012.

After this term, he declined an appointment as a professor at Hochschule
Hannover – the University of Applied Sciences and Arts for the subject of creativity and the psychology of perception and joined the University of Wuppertal as a Professor, teaching the Didactics of Visual Communication ever since.
